Memorable Images from the Inaugural Week

The temporary fencing around the National Mall has started to be taken down and parts of the Mall have been begun to reopen. As of this morning, the “Field of Flags” tribute consisting of 191,500 flags to represent those who were not able to participate in the Inauguration in person was still on display across the turf of the National Mall. There were so many memorable images, below are some of our favorites. It is our honor to work in partnership with the National Park Service, and with YOU, to preserve, enrich and protect the National Mall. Please consider making a git today.

On Tuesday, January 19th, a moving tribute to the American lives lost from COVID-19 was unveiled with lanterns illuminating the perimeter of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. (Photo: National Park Service.)

Our MonumentCam, in partnership with the National Park Service and EarthCam, captured some great ariel views of events on the National Mall before and last we got to experience the “Celebrate America” fireworks on the National Mall first hand from our livestream camera. The location was perfect to capture the inspiring display shining bright in from of our camera.

Celebrating America

The inaugural events concluded with a prime-time program, “Celebrating America” with an epic fireworks display as seen above from the top of the Washington Monument courtesy the Trust’s MonumentCam.
