Conceived of and moderated by Donald Albrecht and Thomas Mellins, curators of the Tidal Basin Ideas Lab exhibition, this evening program co-hosted by the Trust for the National Mall and the National Trust for Historic Preservation is the first in a series of conversations about the changing nature of public space and the complexities of its preservation. The curators will be joined by Setha Low and Seri Worden who will explore the Ideas Lab and the nature of public space in terms of gatherings and demands for political and social change.

Setha Low is a professor of environmental psychology, anthropology, geography, and women's studies at the City University of New York Graduate Center, where she is also director of the Public Space Research Group. Professor Low is currently at work on her forthcoming book, Spatializing Culture: An Anthropological Theory of Space and Place.
Seri Worden is a senior field director for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is project director of the Tidal Basin Ideas Lab.

What began in 2017 as a concept to convene experts by the Trust for the National Mall with the National Park Service, took on a new vision when the Trust partnered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, who added the Tidal Basin to its portfolio of National Treasures and together in the spring of 2019 launched the National Mall Tidal Basin Ideas Lab, presented by American Express.
