Women's Leadership Committee

About the Women's Leadership Committee

In 2007, a small group of dynamic women formed the Women’s Leadership Committee of the Trust for the National Mall.  Since the Committee’s first benefit luncheon in a small tent on the National Mall, this exceptional group has actively advocated to restore the prestige and attention our National Mall deserves.

Looking across the National Mall today, the indelible impact of the Women's Leadership Committee is evident. Standing on the front lines of the fundraising efforts since the inception of the organization, the Committee has contributed time and dedication to notable improvement on the National Mall, including support of repairs to the Washington Monument following the 2011 earthquake, the restoration of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the replacement of 18 acres of lush, green turf lining the Mall.

The Women’s Leadership Committee enables progress by investing in the Trust’s ongoing work to — provide heightened visibility and awareness for the significant needs on the National Mall, steward private support and advocate for Federal Funds for critical capital improvements and deliver active project management that designs modern solutions to improve the visitor experience.

Former White House Social Secretaries and Special Assistants to the President will offer a master class in “treating people well” at the annual Women’s Leadership Committee Spring Hats Luncheon. The Trust for the National Mall and the Executive Committee of the WLC are excited to announce Lea Berman and Jeremy Bernard as keynote speakers for this special event.  Lea and Jeremy make a case for the importance of a return to treating people well in American political life. In fact, they literally wrote the book on it, coauthoring Treating People Well: The Extraordinary Power of Civility at Work and in Life.

Bush from 2004–2007, was Chief of Staff to Second Lady Lynne Cheney from 2002–2003 and, previously, Social Secretary to the Vice President. She is the creator of the blog America’s Table, and lives in Washington, D.C.
